Alex Lifeson's Live Setup

Alex Lifeson of Rush, like I should have to tell you that, talks about his guitars, amps and pedal boards.  It really is amazing just how much "stuff" goes into a live performance.

Lollapalooza 2011 Lineup Announced

The lineup was announced what is now yesterday and looking through it I pretty much found the regular fare until I got to The Cars.  The Cars, really?

Lollapalooza.com

Apparently Ric Ocasek had some material he was thinking about releasing and decided instead of doing it solo or getting a recording band together he would just call up his old band mates and do it with them.  The bass duties will be handled by keyboardist Greg Hawkes for the late Benjamin Orr who passed away back in 2000.  Ocasek apparently will handle all of the lead vocals which I can't say I am too excited about.  I've never thought of him as a very strong vocalist and he certainly doesn't have the voice for "Just What I Needed" and especially "Drive", both of which were sung by Orr.  Here is a sampling of a new tune called, "Blue Tip" off of their new disc, "Move Like This".

So, how excited are you now?  Yeah, same here.  Not exactly my cup of tea from what I have heard thus far.  But I will try and maintain an open mind when I review this new effort in it's entirety.  And now, here's The Cars we knew and loved.

Now that rocks!  So, do you think Benjamin Orr ever had any trouble getting women?  He sure was a good looking man says Wil in a self-assured, heterosexual way.  Hell of a singer too.  Rock on peeps!

eBay Watching - Ibanez SB-70

Well peeps, here's one item currently in Wil's eBay Watch folder. On eBay I have my "saved searches" that are emailed to me daily which I peruse to see if there's anything that catches my eye for one reason or another. Items that strike my fancy are saved to my folder where I check on them here and there to see how much that item is selling/sold for or if perhaps I might "need" to acquire said item for myself. It's all very scientific you know. So, here's what we're watching as of right this minute.

Ibanez SB-70

Here we go again, this guitar and I have history. Let's see if we can keep this short. Back in the summer of '82 I traded a '77 Fender Stratocaster Hardtail straight up at Midlothian Music for one of these '82 Ibanez SB-70s. Yes, I was young and stupid and old Ron Lekavich saw me coming! Anyway, I kept the guitar as my main player for the next year or so until I got something else and the Ibanez just kind of sat around. This continued until fall of '93 when I traded it off for a Washburn right before I moved back to Chicago from Detroit.

Fast forward to a year or so ago when I started going through a nostalgic period and really started getting back into the whole guitar and music thing again. I set off on some strange crusade to right all previous wrongs and get back some of my youth, including some of those "Guitars Of The Past", many of which were unceremoniously sold off to pay bills or other adult like pursuits and dilemmas.

It took me a long time to first of all find out exactly what it was. They only made them in 1982 and they only made like 300 or so of them. It was a transition model for Ibanez, made out of leftover "Studio" bodies and "Blazer" necks.  The only thing it says on the headstock is "Ibanez, Custom Made, Electric Guitar".  Yeah, try searching the internet with that!

The old and the "new"

Once I finally found out exactly what it was, the search was on!  After a couple of months or so I found one on eBay and got it for $245 shipped to my door.   It was in good shape, had been refinished but did not have the original knobs.  Don't even get me started on the knobs!  These early 80s Ibanez "Sure-Grip" knobs can go on eBay for almost $100 A PIECE!  Yeah, unbelievable.

So to finally wrap this up, so much for keeping it short, these are great guitars.  They are solid, no frills, the necks are excellent and the Ibanez Super 70s pickups are awesome.  This one that I am watching is in England and is definitely a tad overpriced, at least if it were for sale here in America.  Guitars and such do command a higher price overseas.  I will not be bidding on this one but I do enjoy watching any time one of these old friends go on the market.

Greg Koch Rules!

Greg Koch (rhymes with "chalk") is one of those guys you've probably heard of in guitar circles but have never actually seen or heard anything by. Well I have now remedied that for you. This guy is frickin' awesome! I mean every damn style you can think of is incorporated with ease and flair. Not to mention if you ever watch some of his Fender clinic and new product trial vids the guy is funny as hell. He kind of reminds me of someone else I dig that plays a Telecaster. Anyway, check out this vid, you will want to watch it in it's entirety. If you can't dig this or you're not impressed then I am firmly convinced you know nothing about guitar playing, period.

Dean Cadillac

I've been digging the Dean Cadillac since way back in the 80's when I saw the woman from the obscure, one-half a hit wonder band, Toronto, playing one. For some reason I thought of that vid the other day and of course had to go over to YouTube to find it. That then made me go over to eBay and see what they had for Dean Cadillacs. The original 80's models are expensive as you have to come to expect anything that they now consider "vintage" to be. So I got to looking at the Korean made models which are the recent ones and man, they sure are pretty. I'm betting they don't play half bad either.  I don't think I would pay $575 for this.  Though it is awful pretty.

And now for your viewing pleasure, Toronto with "Your Daddy Don't Know".  I've been humming this damn song for a week now!

Site Update

Ok, now I remember why I abandoned this whole blogging thing before.  I put way too much work into this shite!  God I wish I wasn't so OCD.  Anyway, I've been adding vids and pics throughout the day and labeling everything accordingly, because that's how I am.

For those not in the know, if you look right over there -------------> to the Pages! section that's where all the "stuff" is at.  I REALLY like this feature, it wasn't available when I was blogging before and it is something I so wanted.   How I love to organize and categorize!

Still working on it, thanks for stopping by.

My Current Stable

Ok, so I haven't been on Blogger for a long time so it's gonna take me awhile to figure this all out. Of course I always start these projects at 3 in the morning.

My guitars and music in general is what I know and love so I might as well blog about something that I enjoy. I posted a whole bunch of pics for now, I'll be back later to give all the details and specs, etc., and to add some more stuff. Oh the fun!
